How to Remove Bad Links with Google’s Disavow Links Tool

Google's Disavow Links ToolGoogle has launched a new, creative, much-predictable and long awaited disavow links tool for webmasters. And the mix reaction is shown by the people of industry. Matt Cutts announced this webmasters tool at PubCon with a detailed list regarding its functionality. Basically, this tool is designed in the wake of penguin for the help of webmasters and that report Google about undesirable inbound links.
After the release of Google penguin updates in April, 2012, SEOs recognized that Penguin penalties were based on inbound link profiles.  This reorganization moved the whole industry to link removal campaigns. In few months, link removal became a new SEO link building technique and webmasters spent more time to remove links and compile their backlink profiles. Clients were increasing the pressure on webmasters to remove their links.
In many cases, it was necessary to remove bad backlinks to get the rankings back in Google search engine results. After the launch of Google’s disavow links tool, the link removal campaigns have come to an end.
Google Disavow Links Tool is open with a large warning, “only use when you are fully confident about your links otherwise this feature can potentially harm your site’s ranking in SERPs”. It’s quite hard to determine how extensive the penalty of algorithm updates can be, but when you see some regular warnings, it’s probably need quick solution.

How to Use Disavow Links Tool

Only advanced webmasters are advised by Matt Cutts to use this tool. It’s very simple to use; just log in to your webmaster tool Account, select the website for which you want to use the webmaster tool and click the Disavow Links (https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/disavow-links-main)

After clicking on “Disavow Links” you will be prompted to a new window to upload a text file. Your text file just contains the links list that tells Google which URLs or domains you want in disavow list for your website. And of course yes, you need to create a text file yourself.

You can either ignore the links from a particular domain or simply disavow the links from the pages of a website. Once you upload a link file, it could take few weeks to identify and apply the changes. For webmasters, it takes some time, but it is an important and logical step for Google.

Link Building - “Hard Links” Vs. “Easy Links”

Google Penguin UpdatesGoogle always encourages people to get backlinks from the high rank relevant platforms. But after recent Google Penguin Updates, it has become harder to rank well because now Google prefers Quality links from Quality websites. It is the wake-up call for those who obtain easy links, now the links that are hard to get have the real worth.

Post Your Links for Humans & Not for Search Engines
After the Panda and Penguin update, it is very important to spread the information over different a channels which is useful for the readers. So, if you are going to submit your website, do consider the importance of submitting the website to major directories which have original traffic; Submit your website to help humans and not for the search engines only.
Same will be applied for social media bookmarking and classified ads, you should add your business/website to quality bookmarking sites, which are actually followed by readers and real users.
And blog comments will be effective only if you have something for public or post as an owner of the blog. Don’t post just to get a backlink.
Create posts (articles, press releases, blog posts etc.) for humans; ultimately, search engines will give the respect and reward to your post.

Google Penguin Updates

Directories and Restrictions to Entry
When Google speaks about directories, it simply means the links from the top directories, not from hundreds of unknown directories. Recently, there was a report on SEOmoz regarding directories that 3,000 directories might be banned by Google search engine.

Article Marketing Directories
Google penguin hit the websites which were receiving backlinks from different article directories, such as EzineArticles, articlebase etc. The biggest reason was that the article directories don’t have any attraction and interest for real audience.
If your post is unable to attract the readers, then search engines will not reward your post or link. Last but not the least, if you were affected by Penguin and you want your website protected for future, forget about easy link building techniques and learn the way of getting hard links from the quality websites.
